Although the factors that lead to the successful completion of complex projects and programmes are widely recognised, putting them into practice can be very challenging.
With over 15 years experience as a Programme Director delivering major transformational change programmes up to £260M in value, I provide a range of services from consulting on a specific issue, to directing end to end project and programme delivery management on your behalf.
With experience working on both the customer and supplier side and across multiple industry sectors, I have a track record of delivering complex IT and infrastructure transformations, from major programmes to individual projects.
Whilst I provide a full range of services I also specialise in three critical areas of Project and Programme delivery:
Initiation
The initial phases of a complicated project or programme are critical, and
the quality of the work done in this phase is one of the biggest factors in determining your outcome.
Whilst there may be pressure to begin as soon as possible, it's crucial to ensure that adequate effort is put into laying the foundations correctly.
Collaborating with the right professionals with the necessary expertise and experience during this stage can ensure success and result in faster delivery in the long run.
Delivery Assurance
One of the least practiced disciplines of the project and programme field, it provides an independent and objective assessment of all aspects of a project or program.
Delivering unbiased insights from the start and with regular follow-up reviews will build stakeholder confidence, identifying potential issues early to enable timely corrective actions and risk mitigations.
The assurance function is not there to expose weaknesses in the delivery team but to support and assist them, an outside expert view will always see things those too close to the subject can not.
At its best it will help foster the right culture of transparency and accountability across your organisation, crucial to any successful delivery.
I offer an initial Delivery Assurance Assessment to identify any critical areas for improvement in your project or programme. Ideally at the start, but also essential if you are a sponsor or stakeholder that is losing confidence that your required outcomes will be achieved.
Recovery
In situations where projects and programmes go off track, an external perspective can be invaluable in identifying the root causes and devising and executing a recovery plan.
The ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with the existing delivery team and manage suppliers – from the small and specialised technology providers to Tier One system integrators - is crucial and demands relevant expertise and experience.
